Massacre of the Elephants

Elephants are some the biggest animals in the world. They roam the forest and plains of Africa without fear of  attack from other dangerous animals. But there is something out there that doesn't fear the elephants, it tracks and kills them without remorse: that threat is poachers.

The elephant population is quickly dwindling. A study from PLoS One shows that 62 percent of elephants have vanished from 2002-2011 and it's getting worst. The main reason why elephants are being hunted out of existence is for their ivory (tusks). Their ivory was used to make billiard balls, piano keys, combs, buckles, and etc. But this items are now made with plastic. But China and other Far East countries, demand for the ivory trinkets has greatly ascended. Ivory can be compared with diamonds; both have little value,  but are displayed and sold for thousands of dollars.

What  poachers don't know is that by continuing to killing these great animals they are slowly dooming their planet. Forest elephants play a vital role in maintaining the life of the forest they live in. They eat the fruit of the trees, then travel throughout the forest and spread lots of seeds when they relive themselves. This trees grow and supply oxygen to the Earth which we all need to survive. Also with murder of the mother elephants , thousands of baby elephants dying without the care and protection of their mothers.

When are humans going to learn that we aren't the only species on this planet. Every animal has a god given right to be on this planet no matter how big or small. Just because they look different doesn't they aren't like us. The feel pain, sorrow, happiness the same way we do, but their are people out there that consider themselves superior. In reality these animals have lived on this planet longer then any of us. Some even commit actions that improve the environment, thus helping us and we still treat them with so little respect.

In conclusion I hope in time that poaching will eventually stop and animals will be treated equally. People need to start thinking: how would I feel if my home was destroyed and I was separated from child, knowing he needs me and will possible die without me. Maybe then something will be done to ensure the safety of this animals.
