Sisters At War

War has always been fought with men. Women have always had jobs as nurses or medical personnel. But all that is about to end, the Department of Defense will lift it's long-standing ban on women participating in combat.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta had this to say on women joining men in combat  " They're fighting and they're dying together, and the time has come for our policies to reflect that reality".  Also military officials are saying over 200,000 jobs our opening up for woman, including Delta Force and Navy Seals. The Pentagon announced requirements to  will not be curtailed for women. They get the same treatment as men.

In November 12, 2012 the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against the ban of servicewoman. They say Major Mary Jennings Hegar, a helicopter pilot was shot down, then returned fire and was wounded in the process. But still couldn't purse combat positions because her experiences weren't considered actually combat. Greg Jacob, a former U.S Marine Corps officer said "When the military goes to full integration, it allows commanders to put the best person in the job, not just the best man. If the best shot in the platoon is a woman, I can make her a sniper."

I think women should have been allowed in the army years ago. Women can do about anything a man can do. Some people are concerned about mothers being taken away from children, but fathers have been out their fighting and dying the whole time. Woman have been treated differently for years because of their stature. Some would say a woman isn't as strong as a man but the truth is woman are just as strong or even stronger.

People say woman don't have the killing instinct of a man, well that's not true. Look at lions for example, the males stay and protect the pride while the females hunt the food. The pride can't survive without one another. If that's not a good example then I don't know what is.

In conclusion I'm glad they lifted the ban, everyone is equal to one another. So we all should be allowed to acquire the jobs.
